• About Me

Athena, a mathalete cannot survive without her macbook dubbed Fred by her mother. A chocolate addict and music fanatic. She listens to everything from Beck to Ingrid Michaelson to U2 to Sia to Jem, just to name a few. She will never be caught without at least 3 books handy. (My parents have started checking my suitcase before we go anywhere after I brought 15 books with me to Seattle.) So that's Athena in a teaspoon take it or leave it.

Yepsidoodles. I am cleaning me room.

Filed under Books - Word Count: 722

So I am currently cleaning my room or at least I should be.. It looks clean on the surface as long as you don’t look to hard you wont notice the desk covered in assorted crap, the overflowing laundry basket, the cracker crumbs on the floor, the books piled up so you can’t open the closet, the barely closed dresser drawers, and the closet which is a walk in by name only. I feel bad letting it get this far and my mom promised me she would take me by barns and noble tomorrow if I clean it up.. Once again my unread book supply is dwindling..

I am almost done with The Luxe, Hero, The Queen’s Soprano, The A-List, and The Sweet Far Thing. So about 500 pages of reading left.. I will finish The Sweet Far Thing today no doubt, it’s getting really good but I don’t want to give anything away ;).. I’m not quite done with the other two but here is my review of each..

The Luxe: This book is ok.. It’s set in manhattan at the end of the 19th century. Basically Gossip Girl with balls and horses. It’s rather predictable and the charicters are very steriotipcial. I’m really not that wild about it, there are tons of better books set in this time period *cough* A Great and Terrible Beauty *cough* I wouldn’t really recommend this book to anybody, it’s like 400+ pages long and plotless. Final verdict: 4/10 (The balls and manhattan count for something..)

Hero: This book is about a teenage boy with a homophobic father and has been hiding from him that he’s gay. He also happens to be a super hero. This book puts a good twist into an old story. I would recommend this book to anybody 14+ it isn’t really something you would read to your 8 year old as a good night story, it can be violent at times and also deals with racism and sexism. Overall I would give this book a 7.5/10 It can drag on sometimes and the plot moves along very slowly.

The Queen’s Soprano: Wow! I love this book. It takes place in 17th century Rome. Angelica’s voice is beautiful beyond belief but the pop has banned women from performing in public and her talent could get her killed. She falls in love with Theodon, a French artist, who listens two her sing from behind closed shutters. Her mother is trying to sell her off to the highest bidder to marry and is determined to control Angelica. Angelica runs away from home and joins the court of Queen Christina where she is allowed to sing freely. But even then her life is in danger. Many people want her silenced. So yeah pretty suspencefull I would recomend this book to people +13 it can be a little graphic at times and it might be a little disturbing for people younger than that (no offense). I would give it a 9/10 I really am loving it and it shows how sexist the society really was.

You already know what I think of the other book so I won’t review them..

I am currently in love with block quotes for some reason! They are so pretty and they break up my blog nicely..

The revamp is moving along, slowely. I am at a dead loss of what to do for the next layout. I am still getting the rest of the pages worked out and I am planning on fixing up the brush previews and font previews and other minor tweaks like that.

Yesterday I stayed up until after 4 in the morning watching movies with my neighbor Evan (He is Annalisa’s older brother. You may of heard about her in my blogs and she comments sometimes..) . I’ve known him since third grade (we were in the same class)..

We watched The Simpsons movie twice.. It was really funny and then we watched some documentary on OPB about some bridge in China and then we watched Cheaper By The Dozen 2. It was better than I thought it was. The ending was fairly fluffy but some parts were really good. It wasn’t as good as the first though.

So tata for now I better get back to my room cleaning..

Edit: Ok so I have been informed by one of my hostees that they no longer want to be hosted so if I emailed you that I cannot host you and have ran out of room please email me if you still want to be hosted. If nobody emails me in the next week or two I will open up the applications again.

The revamp is going pretty good.. I have reorganized the way the pages are and I am working on updating the site content page and reorganizing it.. My todo list is lengthy so I have no clue how long this will take. I wish I could say that it would be done in a week or two but I doubt it will..

So my last post was extremely long and I am going to try to match my length lol.

Vacation has been good the first day we got here I was pretty much dead. I just sat and slept a little. (red eyes will do that to you..) The next day we went to Macy’s after xmas sale. It was crazy, I did get a new coat though and my first coach bag! The coat is blue and grey and black and it’s about knee length. I am seriously in love with it! It’s perfect and it’s DKNY which I have no problem with lol. The purse is little and black and it has this wide silver sparkly band around it. It’s really nice though because it’s coach but it doesn’t scream coach at you. It has the little Cs on it but they’re really discreet. The next day we staid in Queens and went to Century 21. I really could live there!!! I got two juicy swim suits. One was a blue one piece with white polka dots. It’s really nice to find a one piece that isn’t grannyish.. I also got another juicy swim suit and a brown coverup. Then I got a pair of orange pajama pants and a white pajama top. Plus a new blue scarf that matches my new coat and a green DKNY skirt and a black BCBG dress. The dress is really pretty and it should fit for a while (it’s stretchy and a little to big but it was 50% off so who cares!). That was about the extent of my shopping..

The nutcracker was amazing.. The set for the second act was beautiful it looked like a giant doily. The dancing was great but the female ballerinas were no better than the ones in the version I normally see. Clara was really young though she couldn’t have been older than 10.

Yesterday we went to some museum my mom wanted to see and just walked around. We had dinner at this really good italian place in the village. A bunch of my relatives came too I think there where 17 of us. We took up like half the place.

I got The Sweet Far Thing the day it came out (the 26th) and I am only on page 435. It’s really good but it’s moving really slowly. I am kind of disapointed that Kartik isn’t in it more. I am a little over half way done (and by a little I mean like 27 pages..) the book is about 820 pages long which is about twice the length of the first.. I am also reading The A-List which is pretty good.. I am only like 40 pages into it but it’s pretty good.. I like the writing style a lot better than The Clique or Gossip Girl.

One book I would recomend to most anybody is The Queen’s Soprano. It’s really good.. I’m almost done with it and I am really liking it.

Well I should probebly go back to my revamping.. Sadly this post hasn’t matched the last one in length but oh well..
